Oily Hand Diesel Day 2019

The history

In 2007 (or there abouts), a club member called Mike Leys suggested we should start an event to bring together aeromodellers with a love of old diesel engines and an interest in aircraft designs from the post war era. For many this period represents something of a golden era of aeromodelling. Before the cost and sophistication of todays equipment these models were made to a budget and used very simple technologies. But they are great fun to build and fly.

These models introduced many of to this hobby and hold a special place in our hearts. Designs were full of character and charm and gave tremendous joy when they flew well. They still appeal to because of their low-tech simplicity. Since this time the event has grown and grown from 15 participants in the first year. In 2019 we had over 65 participants who came from as far away as Queensland, South Australia, ACT and Victoria.

To give you a flavour of the event here is a video record of some of OHDD activities from 2019. We hope you enjoy watching.
